This icon of the Holy Family is a representation of recent tradition (20th century), created by faithfully following the canons of the Byzantine-Cretan style, known for its spiritual and symbolic beauty.
The main figures, Mary and Joseph, are portrayed in an affectionate gesture: their hands approach or intertwine with Jesus's, symbolizing the union and harmony of the divine family.
The Mother of God, wrapped in traditional colors – a blue tunic under a red mantle – represents the divine royalty conferred upon her. Saint Joseph, in his brown tunic, expresses his earthly dimension, but the gesture of his right hand, which delicately protects Mary, reveals his loving and protective role. His left arm, surrounding the Child, creates a composition inspired by the "Madonna of the Sign," recalling the presence of God at the center of the human family.
The Child Jesus is depicted in a white tunic, a sign of purity and transcendence, or wrapped in a red-gold mantle, symbolizing his divine royalty. With his right hand in blessing, he points to Mary, underscoring her role as the Way to reach Him.
This icon is not only a work of sacred art but a profound message of faith and spirituality, uniting tradition and devotion to inspire reflection and prayer.
