Wall-mounted Neocatechumenal Cross,
made of silver-plated cast brass,
dimensions: 45 cm high x 34 cm wide
weight 2.2 kg
The glorious cross (world) is so called because of the sphere, depicting the globe, upon which the glorious cross of the Risen Lord is planted, the axis mundi that unites heaven and earth, upon which Jesus Christ showed the totality of God's love for all mankind. Immediately above the sphere is Mary in prayer. The Gospels record the presence of Mary: Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother's sister, Mary of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene (Jn 19:25).
In this version, the cross is surrounded by a sunburst radiating from the figure of Christ at the intersection of the two axes. At the ends of these axes are the symbols of the four evangelists in their traditional representation: Man (St. Matthew) and Eagle (St. John) on the vertical axis, Ox (St. Luke) and Lion (St. Mark) on the horizontal axis.
